
Ingredients-
- 1/2 cup washed rice
- 1/2 cup washed moong dal
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1” stick of cinnamon
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 dry red chilli
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 slit green chilly
- 1 tomato finely chopped
- A big handful of spinach leaves
- 4 cups water
- 1 tsp salt or to taste
Method –
- Purée the spinach leaves and set aside
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker
- Sauté cumin seeds, cardamoms, cinnamon, bay leaf and dry red chilli till the seeds splutter
- Sauté the onion till it turns golden
- Add tomato and cook till it turns mushy
- Add spinach purée and cook for about 5 minutes
- Add drained rice and dal
- Add salt and turmeric powder
- Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for about 3-4 whistles
