
Ingredients–
- 1 cup whole green moong beans
- 3 cups water
- 1 medium tomato, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- A pinch of asafoetida powder
- 3-4 cloves of garlic, chopped
- 1” piece of ginger, chopped
- 2 dry red chillies, broken
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp lime juice
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
Method –
- Wash and soak the moong beans overnight
- Drain the water and pressure cook the beans with 3 cups of water and salt for 1 whistle
- Add 1 tbsp oil in a pan
- Add asafoetida powder, dry red chillies and cumin seeds
- Once the seeds crackle, add ginger and garlic
- After about 30 seconds, add onions and fry till light brown
- Add tomato, turmeric powder and coriander powder and cook till tomato becomes soft
- Add the dal to this mixture and boil for 2 minutes
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle the lime juice
