Alu Gobhi (Cauliflower Potato Stir Fry)


  • 2 cups cauliflower florets
  • 1 cup potatoes, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp nigella seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil


  1. Heat mustard oil in a kadhai
  2. Add asafoetida powder, cumin seeds, nigella seeds, dry red chillies and minced onion
  3. Sauté well
  4. Add cauliflower florets, potatoes and chopped ginger
  5. Sauté for 2-3 minutes
  6. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste
  7. Mix gently
  8. Cover the Kadhai with lid and cook on low flame till tender
  9. Sprinkle a bit of water if the vegetables stick to the kadhai
  10. Switch off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
